All the Deals chooses Solentive

May 2012, Sydney

All the Deals manages a website that aggregates daily deals from group buying sites. They have chosen Solentive to develop a Windows mobile application to complement their current website.

The future of desktop applications

More and more organisations are looking at implementing mobile devices, such as tablets, in order to allow their employees to become more mobile. With so many tablet choices and smartphones now available on the market, a large percentage of application development has centred on mobile applications. Is there any future for traditional desktop applications in this new mobile world?

“Like many things in the world of technology, mobile applications are currently a big focus of attention (along with cloud computing). Over time however, it will settle into being one of the many and varied areas of the wider IT world,” commented Kareem Tawansi, CEO of software development provider, Solentive Software.

“With the current push towards mobile and cloud computing, some may be of the opinion that the era of the traditional desktop application is coming to a close. I, for one, doubt this will be the reality. Desktop applications can provide a far richer, faster and more comprehensive user-experience than a mobile application. This is because desktop applications are run on machines that incorporate larger screens and powerful processors that are not held back by size restrictions as they do not need to be mobile.

“Mobile applications provide yet another option for organisations to communicate with their customers and staff; however this does not necessarily mean that they will replace desktop applications.”
